Overall objectives :
Graphic design instruction is organized according to two objectives: vertical progression and opening up to the larger context of design practice.
The 2nd year is devoted to learning the fundamentals of graphic design, through a series of applied and experimental exercises.
Students experiment with notions of contrast, composition, rhythm, form and counter-form, light, texture and matter.
This year is also an opportunity to discover and take ownership of the tools and software unique to our professions, and to explore the various workshops available at the School.
The 3rd year is based on continued and more in-depth learning, the blossoming of original individual styles, and participation in collective projects that balance three major orientations: publishing issues, relationships to space and duration, and identity.
This year enables students to clarify their own orientation and to approach the phases and issues of developing, producing, and distributing their work in a broad environment.
The 4th and 5th years bring together subjects often taught separately, in order to provide a continuous approach that aims to extend the boundaries of our discipline.
Typographic design, systemic design, service and interaction design, and editorial design are four programs that cover the issues of project methodology, research, and management.
They enable students to gradually discover the research theme they want to develop for their thesis and Grand Projet, on which depend their diploma.
These four years of study are also based on a set of core courses that approach the disciplines of the Humanities and Social Studies (cognitive sciences, psychology, anthropology, history, philosophy, literature, sociology, and semiotics), narration, technologies (state of the art in information technologies, prototyping), as well as issues related to innovation.
Finally, the Graphic/Multimedia Design department is attentive, especially over the 4th and 5th years, to the development of research laboratories related to its field and especially those directed within the School's own research and creation structure, EnsadLab.
