The First Year

    The First Year

    Promo2023_2024

The first year is common to all the students who passed the competitive entrance examination.
It enables students to acquire the theoretical, technical and methodological basics common to all departments of our School.

      General Objectives

The first year is common to all the students who passed the competitive entrance examination. This multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary year enables them to acquire the theoretical, technical and methodological basics common to all the 10 departments of specialization of the School.

Classes alternate between theory and practice and are all mandatory.

ECTS credits are awarded for each course. To complete the year and continue their studies, each student must be awarded 60 ECTS credits. Repeating the year is not allowed.

Students are divided in four groups. Each group has its dedicated classroom. The school year is structured around three successive teaching stages.

      A Threefold Curriculum

Stage 1 > Looking and Perceiving
The principle: a series of exercises revolving around a theme chosen by the college of teachers assigned to each group.
The teachers choose a theme based on a current event of their liking – for instance, an exhibition, an event, a social issue or an innovation.
The aim: stimulating the eye and the senses by finding creative ways of translating them in various media.

Stage 2 > Representing: acquiring conceptual, technical, practical and methodological tools
The principle: weekly classes alternating with technical workshops.
      Duration: 23 weeks.
The aim: learning conceptual, methodological and technical tools.

Stage 3 > Expressing and developing projects: projects of thematic synthesis
      “Projects workshops”
The principle: workshops on five themes supervised by all the teachers of Year 1.
The aim:  introduction to project development. Imagining, suggesting and conducting a plastic project based on a thorough and detailed analysis of a context.
